Alpinia

de l’espèce

A tropical plant with many colors
Red ginger is a tropical plant known for its large, colorful inflorescences that are often mistaken for flowers. They are actually bracts. Depending on the variety, they can be red, pink, or white. Some forms also have a denser inflorescence. The flowers are white and only grow from March to October.
At the Jardin de Valombreuse, several varieties ofAlpinia purpurata can be observed. White forms remain rarer. The double shapes, bushier and very colorful, come from horticultural selections made by man to accentuate their decorative aspect. This plant loves the heat, humidity, and rich soils of tropical gardens.
